IAS International Summer Schools of Sedimentology provide an opportunity for Student Members to experience expert tuition from leading sedimentologists in spectacular locations. Now held every two years, they involve groups of 20 - 30 PhD and MSc research students drawn from around the world engaging in practical field data collection and analysis. Team work is integral and the Schools provide an opportunity for participants to develop an international network of colleagues and friends that may last throughout their career.
Most Summer Schools combine hand-on fieldwork, classroom tuition and group presentations, over a week. The modest registration fee, typically in the range of 300 - 400 Euro, covers accommodation, meals, tuition, ground transportation, entrance fees and a field guide. Participants are responsible tor their own travel to the meeting point but can apply for Student Travel Grants to help offset some of the cost.
