5th Microbialites: Formation, Evolution and Diagenesis Conference

The IAS is sponsoring the MFED27 conference. Student Travel Grants are available, closing date 15 February 2027.
The M-FED2027 will be the 5th edition of the biannual conference “Microbialites: Formation, Evolution and Diagenesis”, with the aim of discussing the current state of microbialite research from multiple fields, including sedimentology, sedimentary petrology or geochemistry.
M-FED2027 is designed to promote participation from students because, for them, networking with other students and senior researchers is especially important, as is acquiring the necessary skills for presenting their work and learning new methodologies and approaches. To encourage student participation, they will benefit from discounted fees, and a best student contribution award will be given. Moreover, students will especially take advantage of the workshops included in the conference, since they will facilitate a more relaxed atmosphere for the discussion and exchange of ideas on topics of special interest.
Three different field trips will be offered, for studying microbialites of different ages and sedimentary environments:
1) lacustrine gypsum microbialites, both modern and fossil (Miocene) in the province of Toledo;
2) lacustrine and fluvial carbonate microbialites, from the Neogene and Quaternary, in the provinces of Zaragoza and Huesca;
3) Mesozoic microbialites (MISS, stromatolites, oncoids, etc.) from siliciclastic, carbonate and evaporite coastal environments in the provinces of La Rioja and Soria.
IAS Student Travel grants are available. The closing date is 15th February 2027. Please see the guidelines here and apply via your IAS member dashboard.
