The IAS is sponsoring Geolodía 26 which is being organised by The Geological Society of Spain.

Geolodía (Geoloday) a geological outreach initiative celebrating twenty years of activity, continues to expand and adapt to reach an increasingly diverse audience in terms of age, scientific background, interests, abilities, and sociocultural contexts. Its commitment to accessibility and inclusion is reflected in multiple in‑person and digital activities designed to facilitate the participation of everyone, especially groups traditionally excluded from this type of initiative. Every year a Geolodíais held for each Spanish province on the first weekend of May. The Geolodías take place in sites of great geological interest and offer simple but rigorous information. They allow us to see these places with “geological eyes” and understand how the Earth on which we live works and whose natural resources we depend on. Those who participate also understand the value of our geological heritage and the need to protect it.

The objectives of Geolodía 26 are: 1) to continue with the transmission of geological knowledge to the general people, 2) to show Geology as a basic science for the development of society, 3) to promote critical thinking in the population, 4) Value the geological heritage, promoting geotourism by generating a series of routes available for free on the web, many of them included in the isolated country, which can be used as a possible resource for tourism and economic development of rural areas and 5) Generate informative material of a geological nature that can be used as a complementary didactic resource in pre-university education as it is written in a colloquial but rigorous language.

Many of the field trips contain significant Sedimentological information, with Sedimentology and Stratigraphy being the aim of about the 60% of the excursions and sedimentological information is included in all the field trips. In 2025, 52 geological field trips were carried out in Spain and 22 abroad (Andorra, Uruguay, Mexico, Portugal and France). A total of 8,208 people participated. Special events were organised for people who cannot participate in outdoor trips (hospitals, prisons).
