This is a one-week field training course in cyclostratigraphy organised under the remit of the Cyclostratigraphy Intercomparison Project and the CycloNet project funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO).

After a general theoretical introduction and field day (in the iconic area around Gubbio), students will be spread out for logging and sampling. They will measure their own stratigraphic column, and possibly also proxy data on the outcrop or on samples taken (e.g. magnetic susceptibility or handheld XRF). Further, students will be instructed in the use of spectral analysis tools using their own acquired (and existing) data, and guided towards formulating working hypotheses that will be presented, discussed and compared to the existing literature. This workflow should introduce the students in a friendly and hands-on environment with most of the basic steps of carrying out a cyclostratigraphy study.

For full details including registration costs and deadlines please see the course website.

IAS student members may apply for travel grants towards the costs of participating in the course. Please log in to your Member portal where you can find the Guidelines and Application forms under Applications - Travel Grant - Cyclostratigraphy Field Training School. The closing date for application is 12th June.
