Cyclostratigraphy Field Training School

The IAS is sponsoring the 2025 Cyclostratigraphy Field Training School.
This is a one-week field training course in cyclostratigraphy organised under the remit of the Cyclostratigraphy Intercomparison Project and the CycloNet project funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO).
After a general theoretical introduction and field day (in the iconic area around Gubbio), students will be spread out for logging and sampling. They will measure their own stratigraphic column, and possibly also proxy data on the outcrop or on samples taken (e.g. magnetic susceptibility or handheld XRF). Further, students will be instructed in the use of spectral analysis tools using their own acquired (and existing) data, and guided towards formulating working hypotheses that will be presented, discussed and compared to the existing literature. This workflow should introduce the students in a friendly and hands-on environment with most of the basic steps of carrying out a cyclostratigraphy study.
For full details including registration costs and deadlines please see the course website.
IAS student travel grant applications for this meeting have now closed.
