The record of normal and unusual volcanic-arc activity at the foot of the Andes, Patagonia, Argentina: how does volcanism affect the sediment routing systems?

The focus of this Field Workshop is to analyze and discuss the role of the volcanic arcs during both normal and unusual explosive volcanic periods related to high magmatic productivity events, and how they affect the fate of primary to secondary volcaniclastic products. This will include recent advances in understanding the influence of arc-volcanism across varied tectonic-climatic conditions of convergent plate margin sedimentary arteries over temporal and spatial scales, encompassing terrestrial transient storage. Patagonian Andes offers the opportunity to visit great exposures of volcano-sedimentary records and to discuss how to approach the study of arc products as part of a SRS.

The Field Workshop is being organised by the Commission on Volcanogenic Sediments of the IAVCEI. There is a flyer for the workshop here.

IAS Student Travel grants are available. The closing date is 20th June 2026. Please see the guidelines here and apply via your IAS member dashboard.
