Organization

People responsible for the management of the Association.

Council of Management

Consisting of the President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Past President, two Vice Presidents, and Chief Editors of IAS Journals and Special Publications, this is responsible for the ongoing management of the Association. It meets at least three times a year and takes important decisions on policy, funding and planning IAS meetings and initiatives.

IAS Bureau

The President, General Secretary and Treasurer collectively constitute the IAS Bureau. This means that they are legally responsible for the day-to-day running of the IAS INPO under Belgian law. The Bureau has no separate power over financial decisions, organisation, or operation of the IAS, all of which need to be ratified by the Council of Management.

Council of Supervision

Early Career Scientists Committee

The Early Career Scientists Committee (ECSC) is formed of young scientists who represent the upcoming generation of sedimentologists, ensuring that their voice is heard in the IAS. ‍ An Early Career Scientist (ECS) is a scientist with no more than 7 years of full time experience since completing their Ph.D. (excluding periods of parental or other care leave). The ECSC members are early career scientists active in sedimentological research as demonstrated by their publication record (minimum 3 research articles in peer-reviewed publications).

Agbetsoamedo

Jennifer Agbetsoamedo

ECSC member

I am Jennifer E. Agbetsoamedo, a geoscientist, researcher, and lecturer with a passion for understanding Earth's history and applying geology to solve real-world problems. My work focuses on sedimentary geology, isotope geochemistry, mineral exploration, and geological mapping, while also supporting geoscience education and professional development in Ghana and beyond.

Micaela Della Vedova

ECSC member

I am a geologist and hold a Ph.D. in Geology. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at CONICET and the Instituto Superior de Correlación Geológica (INSUGEO), Argentina, and an Assistant Professor of Paleontology at the National University of Tucumán. My research focuses on sedimentology, paleontology, geomicrobiology, and microbialite systems from extreme environments in the Andean Puna, with particular emphasis on the formation, preservation, and geobiological significance of microbial carbonates and their applications in paleoenvironmental reconstruction, astrobiology, and economic geology.

Yao

Hanwei Yao

ECSC member

I am an Associate Professor at China University of Geosciences (Beijing). My research leverages sedimentary geochemistry to reconstruct the paleoceanographic evolution during the Cretaceous.

Jimenez Soto

Grisel Jiménez Soto

ECSC Member

Dr Grisel Jimenez Soto is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria. She is a carbonate sedimentologist and reservoir geologist passionate about understanding carbonate depositional systems from outcrop to subsurface. Her research integrates sedimentology, stratigraphy, petrophysics, geophysics, and geological modelling to improve the characterization of carbonate reservoirs and support applications in the energy transition, including geothermal resources and subsurface energy storage. She is actively involved in international scientific collaboration, mentoring, and outreach, promoting knowledge exchange within the global sedimentology community.

McCormick

Cole McCormick

ECSC member

My research focuses on dolomite, the sedimentary record's most enigmatic and poorly understood mineral, combining laboratory experiments with field studies to unravel how diagenetic processes overprint and reset the primary geochemical signatures locked within carbonate rocks. Given that all carbonate rocks have undergone some degree of diagenetic alteration, characterizing these effects is fundamental to using carbonate minerals as archives of ancient seawater chemistry, ocean redox conditions, and Earth's climate history.

Remirez

Mariano Remirez

ECSC Member

Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Sequero

Cristina Sequero López

ECSC member

I am a PhD Assistant Professor at the University Complutense of Madrid (Spain). My research combines sedimentology, stratigraphy and geochemistry to investigate Mesozoic sedimentary systems and reconstruct past environmental and climatic change. I work on both carbonate and siliciclastic successions from marine to continental settings, with a particular interest in high-resolution palaeoenvironmental reconstructions and the sedimentary response to global climate perturbations.

Singh

Pragya Singh

ECSC member

I am a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Leeds, UK. My research focuses on understanding nutrient dynamics in Precambrian oceans using the sedimentary rock record and laboratory-based mineral synthesis experiments.

Torromé

Diego Torromé

ECSC member

I am a postdoctoral researcher at Chungnam National University, focusing on the reconstruction of transitional and continental carbonate paleoenvironments, isotope analysis and microbialites.
