Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I receive an error "unknown order/1/r/" on the Ogone payment page

A: This means that the credit card processing company (Ogone) does not recognize the transaction request. Please make sure first that you are not using the https protocol on the 'pay dues' page and have not enabled any form of anonymous browsing. You can also try using a different browser. Most probably, however, the cause lies with your internet provider, who hides your browsing activities in one way or another (through a proxy server, a firewall,...). As a consequence, this makes it impossible for Ogone to reliably identify you and to securely process your payment. Therefore they choose to refuse the unsecure transaction.

A possible solution is to use another internet provider; in fact, very few providers are still using proxy servers and the like. If using another provider is impossible you can request a dues statement via the contact page with a motivation why you need the statement.

The IAS apologizes for the inconvenience, but we hope you understand credit card payment security is one of the main concerns of the IAS and Ogone.

Q: What browsers are supported?
A: The IAS web site should render fine in any web standards capable web browser, which means any fairly recent browser (on different platforms). However, graphical experience can vary and best results come from Firefox, Safari and Chrome. Opera and Internet Explorer (IE7+) are ok, but lack some graphic subtleties (e.g. rounded corners).
Q: How do I use the publication search facility?
A: You can use either the * or ? characters as wildcard. For example, sediment* (or sediment?) will return search results like sediment, sedimentology,... A whitespace between two words also serves as a wildcard character. For example, glacial sediments will return results with glacial in it or with sediments in it. If you want to search for a particular search string, enclose your query in single quotes (for example 'glacial sediments'). This will return results with the exact query in it.
Q: Why can I order only one Special Publication at the time?
A: The IAS offers purchase of Special Publications only as an extra convenient service to its members. As a scientific organization, the IAS has no commercial intentions. As such, it does not offer typical web store facilities. You can contact the publisher if you need multiple copies.
Q: Where can I find my IAS member id?
A: As from 2010 onwards, the IAS no longer uses member id's to identify its members. For various reasons, the IAS now relies solely on e-mail addresses to uniquely identify a member.
